Alumni establish Legacy Fund to support future ÂÌñÂÛ̳ learners

ÂÌñÂÛ̳ alumni generated $156,000 to establish the Alumni Legacy Fund, which will support scholarships and bursaries to ease the financial burdens of future generations of ÂÌñÂÛ̳ learners.

The funds were raised through direct giving, gift matching, and alumni affinity partnerships.

Hilary Lenihan, alumni campaign co-chair and active ÂÌñÂÛ̳ alumna, says the Alumni Legacy Fund creates an opportunity for alumni to help in transforming New Brunswick’s workforce.

“ÂÌñÂÛ̳ alumni have a role to play in supporting the next generation of skilled workers,” she said. “Not only do we want to see the province thrive, but we also want to support the students who are following in our footsteps to secure a brighter future for themselves through meaningful training and work.

“Reaching new learners with accelerated and innovative skills development techniques will drive our workforce forward—and we’re keen to be part of that transformation!”

ÂÌñÂÛ̳ alumni play a key role in New Brunswick’s social and economic wellbeing. More than 53,000 ÂÌñÂÛ̳ alumni are currently engaged in New Brunswick’s workforce, boosting the provincial GDP by $7.2 billion and supporting 70,500 jobs.

“Our alumni know from first-hand experience the essential role that bursaries play in reducing barriers to post-secondary education,” said Shawn Amos, ÂÌñÂÛ̳’s Alumni Coordinator. “When students are more financially secure, they can focus more on their studies.

“Through this gift, ÂÌñÂÛ̳ alumni can continue to have a positive impact on the College and on New Brunswick for years to come.”

The alumni campaign supports the efforts of ÂÌñÂÛ̳’s Going Beyond campaign. The $16-million campaign charts a course for ÂÌñÂÛ̳ to:

  • accelerate skills development by creating fast, flexible training opportunities such as microcredentials and shorter pathways to certification;

  • innovate educational delivery by creating modern, connected spaces, and introducing new technology such as accessible HyFlex classrooms, surface hubs, and simulation labs; and

  • reach unprecedented numbers of New Brunswickers by reducing financial barriers to post-secondary education through targeted bursaries for under-represented groups such as Indigenous students and women in trades.
